Why a community radio station was created for our mountain communities.
The past three years, we listened to what's important to our residents:
Conifer Radio became the live-streaming internet public community radio voice for the the US Highway 285 Corridor in January 2000. Conifer Radio serves our US 285 corridor communities of Conifer, Aspen Park, Pine, Bailey and our numerous other surrounding mountain neighborhood communities extending along and branching from the US 285 corridors from Morrison through Kenosha Pass, Colorado. As a public community radio station, Conifer Radio operates "advertising-free" through internet “live-streaming” technology. As a non-commercial station, we have no commercials and don't 'advertise' - we 'recognize' our community organizations, businesses and local folks.
Two months after it was launched in January of 2020, Conifer Radio grew organically through the pandemic and with the support of a special group of founding supporters and other local underwriting sponsors. Conifer Radio's flagship station, MOUNTAIN CLASSIC ROCK features music including alternative Side-B music continues to be featured 24/7, 365 days per year. In 2023, we've added a our music will continue to diversify. Community information is produced for our Highway 285 Corridor and Evergreen Communities. Conifer Radio receives feedback and daily requests from our mountain communities as we continue to develop what our local residents expect from a public mountain community radio station.
With the considerable cost and the Federal Communications Commission’s (FCC’s) restrictions on the release of any further AM or FM (over the airwaves) radio station licenses, we utilize an internet live-streaming radio station platform. In addition, this is the platform of our future generations and our evolving technologies. Including the launch of "Two Eighty VIBE" for our newer generations of our mountain communities, additional radio stations are planned to feature other local communities and/or genres of music and programming through our live-stream technoligies. A listener now simply selects the genre she/he prefers and will receive the same public service announcements (PSA's) and hourly underwriting promotional recognitions from our station's supporters. Conifer Radio utilizes a very similar approach to that of National Public Radio (NPR) and operates with minimal commercial advertising to finance its current operating costs. Financial support comes from Underwriters, Podcasters and content producers representing our mountain communties. In 2023, weekly advertising revenues will also be important to cover station operational costs, pay music royalties, the return to a professional radio studio AND THE CONTINUING WORK TO CREATE A NONPROFIT RADIO STATION SYSTEM THAT OUR MOUNTAIN COMMUNITIES WILL OWN. Conifer Radio remains an all-volunteer community station.
Because we are an "all-volunteer" station, our operating expenses are carefully managed to a financial "break-even" status. Conifer Radio has been developed by Hudson Ross Associates, a local management consulting firm locally based on Conifer’s DoubleHeader Mountain just above Morrison, Colorado. With financial support from the community, the station plans to transition to a nonprofit community-owned organization continue in 2023.
